I am nearly 15 and I live in Jaffa. I want peace. I love life. I think photography is interesting and it helps to know better meanings of life. It's my way of showing myself different things and also showing them to other people. In the future I would like to do something connected to making our environment better and to help people see the world in a good way – not only the bad. I would like to study photography more. I loved working on this project. I learned things that I didn't see in the beginning.

'Lina sleeping'

I love this picture because Lina looks like an angel when she's asleep. I took this picture because she is beautiful and you can see the intimacy of home and she is calm. But outside there is a whole war - many problems, chaos. When I look at this picture I feel I can resolve all the problems outside.

It's the beginning of the construction of these houses - they haven't built them yet. The Jews think this is the homeland but the Arabs lived here first. This place belonged to the Arabs and then the Jews came and took the Arabs out from their home and made a completely different thing out of Jaffa - but not only Jaffa. Our neighborhood was an Arab neighborhood but now they tell my family that we live in a Jewish neighborhood. They took everyone out and we and another family are the only Arab families left. This picture reminds me of that story.
The Jews came and said 'This is our homeland' and the Arabs said 'No, it is ours' - that led to the war. Now they fight over who is going to stay in the houses.

'A different view'

I like this picture because there is a boat but no sea. A boat in the middle of the street. When you look at it, it gives you a feeling of tranquility. On every part of this picture there is something special. When I look at it, I feel calm - but when someone walks in the street and sees the view, he might think 'what is this boat doing in the middle of the street?' It stands there like a parked car. People can make Jaffa more calm and organised if they want.

More of the work can be viewed online at The other side and at a Jaffa Photography Project mini-exhibition at Rosie's Cafe, Brixton from 11th June.
