The Jeneration Beit Midrash: real questions deserve straight answers. Relax in the Worcestershire countryside and explore your questions about God, Jewish observance and Judaism with rabbis from the Liberal, Masorti and Reform movements

The Jeneration Beit Midrash

gives you chance to relax in the Worcestershire countryside and explore your questions about God, Jewish observance and Judaism with rabbis from the Liberal, Masorti and Reform movements.

The Beit Midrash creates a relaxed atmosphere for some serious textual study. Bringing your own questions - we will open Jewish books finding insight and inspiration.

Rabbis from across the community will take you on a journey to explore what really matters to you. Along the way you can expect to do textual study, debate philosophy and halacha, unravel some Biblical stories and participate in spiritually uplifting prayer. And have some fun!

The Beit Midrash is for anyone interest in serious learning, wherever you are Jewishly and geographically. Shabbat will be observed in public spaces and the food will be vegetarian. If you have any requests we’d be happy to accommodate.

The Beit Midrash starts on Friday night, 27th November and finishes on Sunday afternoon. The cost of the Beit Midrash is subsidised at £40. Food, accommodation and teaching is included. Travel is not. What is the programme at The Jeneration Bet Midrash?

This year there are going to be two main streams at the Jeneration Bet Midrash within the context of an extended Shabbat away.

Your rabbis for the weekend are Rabbi Mark Goldsmith, of Alyth Gardens, part of the Movement for Reform Judaism, Rabbi Judith Rosen Berry, of Beit Klal Yisrael, part of Liberal Judaism and Rabbi Chaim Weiner, Director of the Masorti Bet Din.

The first stream of the weekend is our rabbis teaching aspects of Judaism which are close to their hearts. Chaim will be teaching “Why do we do that – like light candles, tear clothes, eat twisted bread and other Jewish specialities – a religio-cultural exploration”, Judith will be teaching “Towards an in/[coherent] and corrigible Jewish life.- A philosophy of Judaism for now”, Mark will be teaching “Tough situations at work, home and hospital – how Judaism can guide”.

All of these sessions, throughout the weekend, will include traditional text study and discussion as well as plenty of food for thought to take away with you.

The second stream of the weekend is last year’s popular “Answers to Your Questions”.  Send your rabbis a question ahead of the weekend on anything to do with Judaism, Jewish history, practice, theology or philosophy via Judith Williams This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will endeavour to answer it for you at a study session on the weekend.

All this, the Worcestershire countryside, good company, good food and Shabbat too!  We begin on Friday 27th November afternoon/early evening and end with lunch on Sunday 29th.
