Yeshivat Hadar
Mechon Hadar opens applications to Yeshivat HadarMechon Hadar is now accepting applications for Yeshivat Hadar's Summer 2010 and Full-Year 2010-2011 programmes.

Yeshivat Hadar is animated by three central goals:

  • To foster a community of students who engage in intensive Torah study, prayer and action.
  • To offer a passionate vision of traditional Jewish life as a spiritual path.
  • To empower students to build and contribute to vibrant Jewish communities across the United States.

Summer Program 2010

Yeshivat Hadar offers 36 fellows an intensive programme in the heart of Manhattan's Upper West Side. The 8-week experience (June 13 - August 7, 2010) will combine traditional text study, egalitarian prayer and social action with a special focus on personal religious growth. Yeshivat Hadar will create a community of learning which will include seminars, havruta (paired learning), elective classes and time for independent study. Students will complete the program equipped with greater textual competence and broader knowledge of the Jewish tradition as a whole. Students will commit to bringing lessons from their summer experience to their local community.

Full-Year Program 2010-2011

Next autumn, Yeshivat Hadar will enter its second year as the only full-year, full-time egalitarian yeshiva in North America. The program will offer selected fellows an intensive programme in New York City, anchored around empowerment and community. Fellows are expected not only to participate in the programme but to be partners in its launch as well. While the dates are still being finalised, prospective fellows should be available from October 2010 through May 2011. The year-long programme will create a community of learning which will include seminars, havruta (paired learning), elective classes and time for independent study. Students will complete the program equipped with greater textual competence and broader knowledge of the Jewish tradition as a whole. In addition to pursuing their own learning, fellows wil serve as community organisers drawing others into the life of the yeshiva, in learning, prayer, and gemilut hasadim.

Full Tuition Remission + Stipend

In recognition of the intense time and energy commitment required by the fellowship, Yeshivat Hadar is pleased to offer full tuition remission and a generous stipend, intended to help cover the cost of living expenses.

Application Deadline: February 1, 2010

Participation in the program is a selective process, and prospective students must complete a full application, as well as references, by February 1, 2010. Finalists will be interviewed, and fellows for both programmes will be notified in mid-late March. Download an application at the Mechon Hadar website .
