The Separated Child Foundation

The Separated Child Foundation offers emotional, social, financial and physical support to separated children and young people in Britain up to the age of 21. It also engages in educational activities that raise awareness of their needs and encourage positive responses to them. There is more information about the Foundation's objectives and projects at the Separated Child Foundation website.

We are in the process of establishing an educational and cultural club for up to 20 separated asylum-seeking and refugee young people (aged 15-18). Sessions will be held every Wednesday - NOT restricted to school or college term-times-from 4.30 to 7.30 pm; it will include a light meal, provided by volunteers. We anticipate that the club will open in June 2010 and run for an initial period of six months. It is likely to be extended beyond that period.

Youth Worker Role

The two successful candidates will be expected to collaborate in developing and facilitating an educational, cultural and social programme that is appropriate for separated young people in this age group. They will form a small team, with volunteers playing complementary roles. They will also have the regular support of one of the Foundation's trustees, who is an experienced educator.

This is a key project for The Separated Child Foundation and adequate funds have been allocated to cover time spent in planning, preparation and review-both prior to the opening of the club and on a weekly basis.
